Malton is a market town in North Yorkshire, England. The town is the location of the offices of Ryedale District Council and has a population of around 4,000 people. It is located to the north of the River Derwent which forms the historic boundary between the North and East Ridings of Yorkshire. Facing Malton on the other side of the Derwent is Norton. Attractions in Malton include the remains of a Roman fort ('Orchard Fields'), a museum and a Gilbertine priory. Eden Camp, a military themed museum, is located just outside the town. Norton-on-Derwent is a town joining Malton, on the East Riding side of the River Derwent. It is known for its racehorse training. It is also known for its connection with Charles Dickens.
